Angelo Drive Residence
Designed by Velvet Hammerschmidt
The upscale, contemporary hotels found throughout Los Angeles served as inspiration for the home of this hip, young couple. Because the clients spend much of their time at home entertaining friends, a variety of seating areas were spread throughout this open space to allow their frequent guests to sprawl out and socialize.
Great Room
Funky fabrics and one-of-a-kind contemporary furniture pieces, including a ‘bubble chair’ suspended from the ceiling and a red velvet extra wide chaise set on a circular gray fur rug, bring a sense of liveliness into the room. A custom-designed onyx dining table glows from below to suit swanky evening dinner moods. The dining table is separated from the other seating groups by a mirror-backed plasma TV suspended from the ceiling. The entire space is outfitted throughout with a fully-integrated top of the line home theater and entertainment system.
Banquette Area
For this seating area in the kitchen nook, Toll Hammerschmidt custom designed a unique zebrawood table nestled up to a built-in banquette. The design carefully accounts for details such as the surfboard-shaped wood top, soft mitered edges and U-shaped stainless steel legs to solve the circulation and ergonomic constraints of this small area.
Master Bedroom
The design team considered every detail in this bedroom retreat to create a clean, refined environment. Custom millwork cuts clutter and cleans up the space by creating a place for everything and fully integrating computer, TV and stereo components. Unique metal mesh pendants, custom fur bedding and a sculptural cobalt chair add interest to the refined space.
Powder Room
Despite the small scale of this space, all of the well-considered fixtures and finishes work together to create an open, soothing atmosphere. Blue limestone, glass tile and brushed stainless steel infuse a contemporary feel to the space. An updated glass block wall pulls natural light into the environment. The clean lines of a white cararra marble console table and exposed plumbing further enhance a sense of lightness.
